We have a problem with trick names in rollerblading. I’m sure that comes as no surprise to any of you, but after watching the Global Game of Skate on Instagram, I’ve come to realize just how confusing, divisive, and geographically tribalized our terminology has become. Today, I’d like to start a conversation about trick names.
With a degree in English and a job teaching linguistic syntax, I attempt to explain the underlying structure of rollerblading trick names and how to resolve the inconsistencies within our existing system. Two areas we explore are the alleyoop unity vs savannah debate and the subjectivity of 360 grinds (hardspins).
